If you are reading this then you must know my blog is morphing... It's going from murder to mission!
Yep! We are entering the Provo MTC (Missionary Training Center) on Monday the 11th of August for one week then it's off to Johannesburg South Africa! Yep! You read me right! South Africa! And for two people (my blog will now be "our" blog) who have only stepped across the border into Tijuana for approximately 30 minutes then scurried home again, going to South Africa is a BIG deal.
What will we be doing there? I imagine--and that's really all I can do at this point--Wayne and I will be working in a Branch and helping to teach and work with people who are interested in learning more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If it is anything like our mission to New York City South in 2005-2007 we may also work in the mission office, teach Institute and do Jr. missionary apartment (flats in SA) inspections. Whoohoo! That was really fun. And I'm not being sarcastic. It was really fun.
South Africa or officially, The Republic of South Africa, has a rich history both amazing and tragic. I won't take the time to go over the ups and downs but if you are at all interested I would recommend watching the movies "Mandela" and "Invictus" (SP?) in that order. They are both well done and super informative. You can read lots of books but most of them are so darned depressing that... well... you'll just have to watch "Invictus" to feel better anyway. So watch them but watch them in that order.
Needless to say, we are excited...so excited we practically sing about it. But the waiting is killing me. We have known about this call since April 24 so the waiting closely resembles waiting for the birth of a child. We are so ready to be gone!
Certainly we will miss our family and friends and neighbors and house and our dog, Jed but we know this is what we should be doing. We have the time, means and disposition to serve the Lord in this way. We know the gospel of Christ is a real thing. We believe and strive to live by the tenants of the true and living church on this earth--The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. So why shouldn't we go?
Check out this site for our adventures. I'll try to learn how to post photos so you can see what we are experiencing and not just through my words... Surely there must be a missionary out there who can help with my training. Remember us in your prayers and come and see us! We'll show you the sites!
Whoohoo! What an adventure!
So excited for you and Wayne!
